Sweet Suite by Stacy Crabill & featured brand Three Pearls Paperie

Better Ask Twice | 48″ x 48″ | Mixed Media

Larger than life candy and fortune cookie text fluctuate within the large-scale paintings of Stacy Crabill. This new body of work explores candy and its alluring qualities. Color, texture, sensory gratification, packaging, temptation- what role do they play in our succumbing to the villain of the food world? The recurring element of text derived from the small piece of paper tucked neatly inside an after dinner treat speaks for the sugary promise of hope, mystery and superstition.

This work is made possible by an Ella Fountain Pratt Emerging Artists Grant from the Durham Arts Council with support from the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Cultural Resources.

Paper Flowers by Three Pearls Paperie

In addition to the Sweet Suite show, our feature brand in the shop for February is Three Pearls Paperie.

Three Pearls Paperie creates Paper origami flowers and bouquets as a contemporary alternative to traditional floral arrangements while using 90% recycled materials.

As part of First Friday, Michelle Mills will be available in the shop to personalize flowers and bouquets!

Three Pearls Paperie flowers and bouquets include origami papers, fine stationary, old printed books, sheet music, vintage wallpaper, comic books and much more. Some of the finer pieces are made with vellum, linen, parchment, and textured papers. Many include exotic elements such as Japanese Chiyogami, Yuzen, and Washi Paper, Indian batik, Nepalese lokta and Italian hand-marbled paper. Once constructed, the flowers are embellished with found items such as old watch parts, vintage buttons, typewriter keys, jewely bezels, and old bottle caps.
