Aly Khalifa, founder of Designbox and Lyf Shoes in Raleigh NC, is a featured speaker at this year’s Sustainable Brands Conference, which happens in San Diego June 2-5 With over 2000 attendees, the conference serves as a global conversation which shapes and supports new opportunities and innovation in sustainable commerce efforts. Aly will be speaking at the 11:00 am – 12:30pm session on Wednesday, June 4. Day 3 of the conference is focused on “Redesigning Products, Services and Business Models.”
Aly will be introducing Lyf Shoes, which promises a radical new level of innovation in next generation footwear with an on-demand shoe collection enabling both custom fashion and custom fit—all within an entirely closed loop recyclable manufacturing model. The patented no-glue-no-heat design can be custom assembled at the store to suit the customers’ fashion and fit preferences right before their eyes. “Using a combination of ground-breaking technologies such as 3D printing and scanning, on-demand textile printing and laser cutting, and combining that with the attention to craftsmanship and fit of yesteryear, we like to think of Lyf Shoes as ‘The Digital Cobbler,'” says Khalifa.
Lyf focuses on building a self-improving shoe, creating jobs in the USA, reducing inventory cost and waste, and protecting the environment, and is poised to redefine the energy intensive manufacturing processes and toxic materials needed to create a viable collection in the industry today. As Aly describes it, “Lyf Shoes have been specifically designed with the environment in mind, with each piece created from a defined recyclable material and then cleverly assembling them together with a snap fit joinery construction and sewn upper. This assembly also enables easy disassembly, separating the component parts for 100% repair and upcycling throughout the supply chain.”
