January 8 2014: The Power of Public Creativity, with speaker Sarah Powers

ignite-header

Sarah Powers, the director of Visual Art Exchange (VAE) and SPARKcon, will be speaking today about how VAE puts on an undefined creative festival, SPARKcon, now in it’s 8th year. That “undefinition” enables true creativity to blossom, creating a framework wherein people can experiment with how to engage with the public and how to showcase work and ideas. Sarah is a fine artist as well as VAE director, and is chair of the Raleigh Arts Commision, so she is able to see issues of the creative community from a variety of perspectives: an artist within the community, a non-profit director helping to engage and promote the community, and a city organizer helping to create initiatives that empower and showcase the community.

Sarah will also be talking about Ignite Creativity Conference, now in its second year. Ignite is a 2-day professional conference that gives visual artists, craftspeople, musicians and filmmakers the business side of creativity in a fun, energizing environment.
